Ignore the mixed reviews for this mattress: people think they want a firm mattress, and then they're upset when they get it. They're weak.This mattress is a brick, as it should be. Here's why this is good: it gives you all the support you need, and lets you fine-tune it to your comfort with a mattress topper.You cannot do this with a mattress alone, not would you want to. We've all tried: you get the mattress that feels great in the store, and then 6 months later it softens up in the middle, and starts trying to fold your body onto an uppercase U while you sleep. You spent hundreds of dollars, and got less than a year of good sleep for you investment. That's for chumps.A properly firm mattress should be just soft enough that you do not get a concussion if you flop down onto the bare mattress. That mattress--THIS mattress--will keep its shape. And it's firm enough that you will keep your shape.You will likely want a mattress topper. This could be a fluffy down thing, egg crate foam, or my preference, memory foam. Sleeping without a mattress topper is only slightly more forgiving than sleeping on a carpeted floor: it's going to keep your back from acting up, but it can be rough on your joints.Put a couple of inches of memory foam on top, and you have the best sleep of your life. ALL the support, just the right cushion. Some nights I'm disappointed I didn't pass away in my sleep, because it means I will have to tear myself away from this beautiful mattress.
